I am so very excited to be a part of the Play by Play Festival this year. Since 2018, I’ve had the distinct pleasure of hosting the Play by Play Awards (Also known as: The Pavs). In 2021 I’m taking it one step further!

This year I’ll be an official speaker at Play by Play with Rick Stemm with our talk ‘Beyond D&D: RPGs as Skills and Growth’ (https://playbyplay.co.nz/speakers/josh-kamau-2021/). I’ll also be Dungeon Master and running a table at the ‘Roll Initiative: Dungeons & Dragons’ event for everyone!

I am such a huge fan of Dungeons and Dragons. However, one of the major hurdles I experienced as a kid, especially a kid playing DnD for the first time, was the sheer amount of rules you needed to keep track of. It was often overwhelming to measure things such as encumbrance, spell lists, and rules of combat (Don’t get me started on THAC0) whilst also coming out of my shell to roleplay. I often felt too intimidated to play.  

Amazingly, technology and the internet has changed a lot since then and Dungeons and Dragons is far more accessible than ever. 

That’s why I’m taking part!

I hate to think of all the years of fun and friendships I missed out on because I never took the leap to play. So, if you’re in Wellington for Play by Play please consider joining in! There are still tickets to be sold and who knows, maybe you’ll end up at my table
